BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Two semi trucks collided early Thursday on Interstate 5 near Bellingham, blocking all southbound lanes until further notice, the Washington State Patrol reports.
Troopers and medics responded to the scene, about eight miles south of Bellingham near the Nulle Road interchange, at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
Two heavily damaged semi trucks were found at the scene, blocking all southbound lanes. Diesel fuel was spilled at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that one of the semis was heading north in the northbound lanes, crossed the median and slammed into another semi that was heading south.
Another car was involved, traveling in an unknown direction.
Incredibly, only one person sustained minor injuries despite the extensive damage to the vehicles.
Traffic is being detoured around the crash at North Lake Samish Drive.
